Manuscript Evaluation Process

Histosophia is a journal that evaluates and publishes studies exclusively in the field of history, adhering to internationally recognized academic standards. The article evaluation process is meticulously conducted to ensure the journal’s transparency, reliability, and compliance with ethical and academic norms. The review process is carefully implemented at every stage to earn the trust of both authors and readers, and only qualified, original research papers are accepted.

1. Submission Process

Authors submit their manuscripts to the journal through the online submission system. Before submission, authors must ensure that their manuscripts fully comply with all writing guidelines. The submission is made via the journal’s open access portal. During the submission process, authors are required to complete the Copyright Agreement and Authorship Contribution Declaration Forms in full.

Estimated Duration: The submission process begins once the manuscript is uploaded to the online system. The approval and completion of the submission generally take about 1–2 business days.

2. Initial Evaluation (Preliminary Review)

The manuscript is first subjected to an initial evaluation by the editors. During this stage, the following criteria are taken into consideration:

  • Topic and Scope of the Article: The manuscript’s relevance to the journal’s aim and scope is assessed.

  • Compliance with Writing Rules: Compliance with the journal’s writing rules and the APA 7th edition (American Psychological Association) format is checked.

  • Originality: It is verified that the article has not been published elsewhere and does not contain plagiarism.

  • Structural Appropriateness: The manuscript is checked for the presence of required sections such as title, abstract, keywords, introduction, methodology, findings, discussion, and conclusion.

If the manuscript passes this stage, it proceeds to the peer review process. Otherwise, the author is contacted and requested to make the necessary revisions.

Estimated Duration: The preliminary review process generally takes 1–2 weeks.

3. Peer Review

All manuscripts submitted to Histosophia undergo a double-blind peer review process in which the identities of both authors and reviewers are concealed from each other.

Histosophia adopts a double-blind peer review system. In this process, both the author’s and the reviewers’ identities remain confidential. The peer review process consists of the following steps:

  • Reviewer Selection: The manuscript is evaluated by reviewers who are experts in the relevant field. Reviewers carefully examine the content quality, research methods, literature review, findings, and conclusions.

  • Reviewer Comments: Reviewers submit their positive or negative feedback, including suggestions for revision when necessary, to the editorial board.

  • Revision and Corrections: The manuscript is revised by the author in line with the reviewers’ suggestions. The author must clearly indicate the changes made. If the author fails to make the requested revisions or declines the suggested changes, additional evaluations are conducted by the reviewers and editors.

Estimated Duration: The peer review process typically takes 4–6 weeks.

4. Final Decision

Following the reviewers’ evaluations, the editors make the final decision on the manuscript:

  • Acceptance: The manuscript is accepted without any revisions.

  • Acceptance with Minor Revisions: The manuscript is accepted with minor corrections. Authors must implement the specified revisions and resubmit promptly.

  • Acceptance Requiring Major Revisions: The manuscript is accepted with significant revisions. Authors are expected to make substantial changes according to the reviewers’ and editors’ feedback.

  • Rejection: The manuscript is rejected based on reviewers’ comments and editorial evaluations.

Estimated Duration: The final decision process generally takes 1–2 weeks.

5. Final Checks Before Publication

Once the manuscript is accepted, the editors perform a final review. This review ensures formal compliance with the journal’s writing guidelines, linguistic accuracy, and adherence to the APA 7 citation and reference format. After all checks are completed, the manuscript becomes ready for publication.

Estimated Duration: Final checks and editorial adjustments usually take 1–2 weeks.

6. Ethical Principles and Conflict of Interest

Great importance is attached to ethical principles throughout the article evaluation process. Authors must declare that all data used in their studies were collected in accordance with ethical standards and that no conflict of interest exists. Reviewers must abstain from the evaluation process in cases of potential conflict of interest.

7. Open Access and Post-Publication

As an open-access journal, Histosophia allows unrestricted access to published articles. Authors accept that their works will be freely accessible to the entire academic community. After publication, each article is assigned a DOI number and can be shared across academic networks and other open-access platforms.

Estimated Duration: The post-publication access and DOI assignment process typically takes about one week.

8. Publication Process of Accepted Articles

Once accepted, the publication process proceeds as follows:

  1. Final Formatting and Visual Editing: Final formatting is carried out before publication, and the manuscript is visually adjusted to fit the journal’s template.

  2. Final Proofreading: Editors conduct one final review of the manuscript, checking for writing errors, grammatical issues, and conformity with APA 7 formatting.

  3. DOI (Digital Object Identifier) Assignment: Upon publication, a DOI number is assigned to the article. The DOI provides a permanent link and ensures accurate citation and referencing.

  4. Publication: The article is published on the journal’s open-access platform and becomes publicly available.

Estimated Duration: The publication process is usually completed within 2–3 weeks after acceptance.
